For teachers, parents and schools
Last updated November 2026.
The practice pages work with no account and send nothing to us. This page is about what happens when a student joins a teacher’s class with a class code, and when a learner aged 13 or older makes an account of their own.
We don’t ask for a student’s name, email address, age, school, location or password, and they don’t make an account. Written answers and the numbers students type about their own spreadsheets stay on their device and are never sent.
When a student joins, their browser gets a long random key and keeps it. We store only a scrambled version of that key (a SHA-256 hash), so not even our database holds the key itself. Anyone with the key could add results under that nickname, which is why it never leaves the student’s browser.
For teachers we store a display name, the email they sign in with, and when they confirmed they are 18 or older. If a teacher buys a project, Stripe handles the payment; we keep only the checkout reference, the project, the amount and the date, never card details.
A learner who makes an account on the learning page signs in with an email address (or Google) and gives us a first name or nickname. They confirm they are 13 or older before they sign in, so a younger child isn’t asked for an email address; we store when they confirmed it, not a birth date. Under-13s can’t make an account.
For each lesson they practice while signed in, we save their progress so it follows them to another device: for each question, whether it was answered right, how many tries and hints it took, and when it comes back for review. Their written answers and the numbers they type about their own spreadsheets stay on their device and are never sent. If they buy a project, Stripe handles the payment and we keep only the checkout reference, the project, the amount and the date. Only the learner, and Learn With Numbers while running the service, can see this.
When an adult or a learner 13 or older sets up an account, there is a box, unticked, to get emails when a new project or lesson comes out. If they tick it, we store that they said yes, when, and which wording they saw. They can untick it on their learning page or class dashboard at any time, which takes them off the list, and every email has a link to stop them. We use the list only for news about our projects and lessons, and we don’t sell or share it. Students who join a class with a code are never asked and are never on it.
Anyone signed in with an account (adults, and learners 13 or older) sees a Feedback button and can send us a note about the page they are on. We store the note, the page, the account that sent it, when, the size of the screen, whether the site was in light or dark mode, and on a practice page which question was showing. Only Learn With Numbers can read it, and we use it only to fix and improve the site. Students who join a class with a code have no account, so they don’t see the button.
Students in a school class join with a nickname and no email, and we use their results only to show them to their teacher. We are reviewing this page with an education privacy lawyer, including what schools need under FERPA and COPPA. If your school needs a data privacy agreement before your class can use the dashboard, write to us and we will work through it with you.
In a homeschool class, the parent makes the class and is its teacher, so the parent decides whether their own children join. This section is also part of our legal review.
